  • Welcome or welcome back to my studio where I share with you how to easily make textured art with some unconventional art business tips.
Today, I’m showing you how I created a custom 3D floral artwork. Bespoke pieces are my favorite-they push me to work with color combinations that I wouldn’t usually choose, and I am often surprised by the final result.
For this piece, the requested colours included viridian green, light pink, and other mixture of colours to match two runners where the artwork will be hung, featuring dark peach, beige, pastel yellow, and mint colour.
First I started with the gradient background. Blending gradients with acrylics can be tricky since they dry fast. You can use an acrylic retarder, spray water while blending, or work quickly, which is what I did. Always start with lighter colors and gradually move to darker ones. For smooth blending, use a dry mop brush for the final touches.
Once the background dries completely, it’s time for the fun part-adding flowers and petals! Using a round-tip palette knife, I began with coral red flowers. Watch the zoomed-in shot to see how I load the knife and shape the petals. Scoop the mixture, clean the edges on the palette, then gently press the tip of the knife and pull your hand back slowly. Repeat for all petals to complete the first layer. While still wet, add a second layer of petals the same way, and use a smaller knife for the flower’s center.
Next, I created a different flower type with the same knife. This time, instead of pulling my hand back immediately after placing the petal, I swiped the knife slightly for broader petals, overlapping each one until completing the circle.
Then I used a diamond-shaped knife to add the petals. I also incorporated double petals by loading the knife again and layering the second petal directly on top of the first while still wet.
Check out how I load the diamond-shaped palette knife, scooping a generous amount from the mixture and cleaning the edges, then applying it on the canvas with gentle pressure and taking my hand out slowly leaving behind a little elevated ridge.
I filled in between the clusters, and tried to catch some sunlight in the UK to capture the final result.
I missed a landscape video, but you can check out the finished piece in my Shorts. Here’s a quick look at it before varnishing! so that I don’t leave you without a final result.
That’s how this custom artwork came together! Let me know if you enjoyed this process, Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one!"
